Misson Statement

To establish and promote literacy skills and health care services for economically poor and handicapped children around the world.

Literacy is a continuum of learning skills which people have different levels of ability. However many are blind sited by the social and physical handicaps failing to attain their full potentials.

Strong literacy skills are essential for success in modern world. Although definition of success varies but by a broad definition it means to acquire the necessary skills to attain proficiency to achieve one’s full potential and self worth.

The term literacy services refer to the wide range of educational services for individuals throughout their lives.

Impact of literacy on health care.

 
 
1. According to AMA 473 billion is the annual burden on the United States health care systems due to low literacy.
 
 
 
 
2. Approximately 90 million US residents experience difficulties in accessing healthcare systems and health care information.
 
 
 
 
3. Most healthcare materials are written above US 10th grade level, even though 1 in 5 American adults read at the 5th Grade or below, and the average American reads at 8th to 9th grade level ( Pfizer Health Literacy Institute).
 
 
 
 
4. Only 50% of all patients take medications as directed. Problems with patient compliance and medical errors maybe based on poor understanding of health care information ( Pfizer Health Literacy Institute).
